The impact of getting involved is having a sense of pride that we can contribute to the community and what we as Cambodian have achieved here in Australia. We can make changes happen for the good of the community. In the Cambodian community a lot of the services that are carried out for the community are run by older Cambodians. Especially running of the Cambodian Temple, in the future it will be the younger people who will have to take it on. If not these facilities may not be properly looked after or managed, the consequence is that in the future they may not have a temple to go to. The temple is a piece of Cambodia that we have with us here in Australia. We can share it with other cultures and give them an opportunity to learn from us and what we have to offer as Cambodians.
I think we need to look at helping younger generation Cambodians by investigating what is most needed, e.g: learning to speak and write khmer to a new level, culture diversity (Understanding what are Khmer and Australia Culture ) and many more. We just need to work out how we can do this. We know there are many ways...

Hi Cameron

What do you have to offer younger people as a Cambodian?
Hi Steven;
Thank you for your important comment. You play am important role in our Cambodian Community. And We could convince younger cambodian generation about them playing an important role in the Cambodian Community by showing them a win-win situation. e.g younger cambodian may know many new technologies like internet that can help older cambodian more and the reward$$ can be huge, if we can show them that they can get great reward$ and many benefit for them along the way. There are many ways that we all can get rewarded and share the benefit as a community.

Hi Steven;
The cambodian temple (wat) facility are there for our cambodian community to meet and greet and share many exciting ideas that can benefit us. How can we use these great facilities to improve our lives and make our community a lovely place? Please comments on this?

Hi Cameron

How would you convince younger people to participate in the Cambodian community?
Hi Steven, it is possible to bring the Cambodian Community as one, we need to have something in common like same goals and mission to succeed so we all will have something we can all to look forward to. One must understands our culture and australian as well and that one will succeed.

...And by being positive and having the motivation and attitude also a bonus. I think this is the right tools to lead other cambodians to success in our community.

Hi Cameron
You may be aware that:

There are few Cambodian organisations in Victoria. Each has its own philosophy and view. Each has to feed and support itself. Each has long established and sustained. What is your scope in bringing Cambodian community together? Is it possible?
Meeting is going to be big as this will form new Committee memvers overseaing the monthly operations.
Could you come up with some rules and procedures for the meeting etc. it would be great ideas Steven, Thank you.

What are the procedures of the meeting? What do you hope to get out of the meeting? The meeting rules should be set up, such as time allocated to each participant.
The best option for that we should help the younger generation to combodian community so that they can easily communicate with older generation and convey there message to the people very easily.
 Has anything happened since last year with this discussion and planned meeting?

I have a few concern about Sydney Khmer community.

1. What are the services carried out in the community that you aware of?

I am not sure, nothing beside going to Bonnyrigg temple. I make good donation and very happy to, but my concern is if the Temple have everything and require no extra fund, is any part of our donation going torward to other charity? I have been to different culture temple and learn their biggest temple received great donation and own a few BMW. Monk also seen in BMW. I hope we don't follow their foot step. I love and very proud of my Khmer culture and hope no selfish businessman or women to destroy my believing.

4. How the younger generation can get involved in the community?

If I am the only person not involving in the community, please advise how and what I should do to get involve. If there is anyone, is the same as I do, I think we need someone with stronge team leader skill able to communicate and happy to participate with community to bring the youth together. I believe there is other like myself want to make a better Khmer community but don't know how.

P.S most of the youth not connected with Khmer community don't read Khmer language so posture in Khmer writting will not get our attention.

Dear All - May be I'm the only member from Cambodia. I am glad to hear that all of you are organizing different event to enhance the betterment of Cambodia Community in Australia. Please let me know if I could help something from here, especially in your coming meeting. I support Sang Sophie's reply on not wasting donation to buy the fancy car, but to use it in a charity way, helping people to stand up, live and join our happiness. Regards. Tek Heng. Phnom Penh.
